YAA! is building a foundation for positive communities through place-making. Workshops help facilitate personal growth and development by guiding youth through positive, artistic risk-taking while exploring the issues relevant to their court-involvement. YAA! provides arts programming to youth impacted by the juvenile justice system who have very little access to arts resources in their neighborhoods. The creative spaces we make are only as effective as youth feel safe and engaged in the process. Our evaluations indicate that youth consistently report that they feel safe and free to express themselves.
Each week, youth are engaged with compassionate, caring community members, and talented artistic professionals. Our art supplies serve as vehicles for youth to gain confidence and agency over their choices and futures. Self-reflection happens naturally as they try new things, experiment with new concepts, and overcome challenges. Most importantly, they are experiencing success, and their accomplishments are celebrated. YAA! Music, Mosaics and Murals Project is designed to celebrate, work with local artists to broaden workshop experiences and connect youth with arts education professionals. Learn more about our YAA!
